Arnold Holmes
Hornet
11" H
with 1/2" base
"The striped form of
the Hornet or Wasp Kachina may be a recent borrowing from the
Zuni. There are two distinct types of Tatangaya, and this one
seems to be the most recent.
"He comes in groups or
singly during the Pamuya or the Mixed Kachina Dances. There are
many examples of this kachina in older collections of dolls and
they are bright and colorful."

Arnold Holmes is the son of
Arthur Holmes Sr., and brother to Arthur Jr. He is also very
talented as a carver, and his ability speaks for itself in this
incredible rendition of the White Bear kachina.
Many similarities can be seen
throughout the work of this family - including the amazing detail
in the hands, fur, and feathers. Arnold's work is looking more
and more like Arthur's all the time.
We were very impressed with
this piece. The detail and proportion in the anatomy is amazing
in a piece of this size.
